Scholarships: Tips, Techniques & Resources

Student Support Services S3 Scholarships
Scholarships options are endless at times overwhelming. We try our best to help you simplify the process.
Start by drawing an imaginary circle around yourself and reach your arms out. Think of the things you have a direct connection with, do you have job? Mom's employer, Dad's employer. youth group, clubs, sports, theatre, organizations. Ask everyone, "is there a scholarships opportunity?"
After examining the things you have a direct connection with start using the tools we have shared with you. What opportunities are available at CMHS? What is available in Concord, Charlotte and North Carolina?
Once you have considered the local options then we go really big on a national scale. Most major businesses offer some kind of scholarship opportunity. Think Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Toyota, McDonalds, Google. Check the criteria and apply! Remember that global schoalrships are the most competitive but if they are choosing a recipient, why not choose you?
To make this task more manageable we always suggest that you choose one schoalrship each week and spend time completing the application. Send it off and start another one. Treat it like a weekly homework assignment. If you break this down and make it manageable you will be able to apply to more schlarships and hopefully find money to help you pay for college.
Many times while we are searching for the big dollar opportunities we miss the smaller ones that are within reach. It takes time to do the applications but many students actually enjoy the experience. You will feel a sense of pride as you write essays and share stories of successes, challenges and accomplishments in high school.
GOOD LUCK!
