Ms. Shauna Ward

Hello, my name is Shauna Ward and I'm happy to be a part of the Charger family. I taught middle school in Robeson and Columbus counties for 7 years before coming to The Mill to teach in the Academy of Information Technology program. After 9 years of classroom teaching, I have accepted the role as the Career Development and NAF Academy Coordinator.

The Career Development Coordinator (CDC) supports Career and Technical Education (CTE) and coordinates career development services for students participating in CTE. The CDC works collaboratively with administrators, student service personnel, and teachers to ensure the delivery of career development services. The CDC facilitates linkage with parents, businesses, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to support students' transition to postsecondary education and employment.

The CDC responsibilities incorporate the North Carolina Standard Course Study, National Career Development Guidelines, the National Model for School Counseling Programs and Future-Ready Students For the 21st Century. Specific Career Development Coordinators responsibilities include:

  • Career Development
  • Preparatory Services
  • Transtion Services
  • Partnerships
  • Professional Development

Why Should I See My Career Development Coordinator (CDC)?

The Academy of Information Technology (AoIT) is a four-year career academy affiliated with the National Academy Foundation (NAF). Career academies are for students who want to attend post-secondary school or begin a career right after high school. AoIT provides a smaller learning community in which a cohort of students have core and IT classes together. Academy teachers share the cohort students and work together to integrate technology into their curricula as well as develop interdisciplinary projects. As the workbased learning coordinator, I will be your primary contact for the AoIT Academy here at Cox Mill. Our AoIT academy offers two pathways: Programming and Media. Please view our AoIT website for more information, reminders or important dates.
