Joining Prerequisites

Cox Mill High School will use the following process to determine selection into our chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH). The process used at Cox Mill High School reflects the recommendations of The American Council of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), which is the governing body of the SHH.

Selections for membership in the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) are made by the SHH advisor and the cabinet. The criteria for membership are: Character, Leadership, Honesty, and Commitment. Information about prospective members is gathered primarily from the SHH application, teachers, and grades. After careful consideration of the candidates in all respects, the Chapter Advisor will then send acceptance letters to the selected students.

In order to become a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, you must...

...have already taken Spanish I, II, and III Honors courses (3 semesters must be on your transcript - If you are a Spanish speaker who took just Spanish III Honors you can talk to our adviser first).

...have an A in each Spanish Course you’ve taken.

...be willing to do at least 10 hours of Hispanic-related community service each year (in school & out of school).

...be committed to attend to a monthly meeting, participating, and planning on the community service activities.

...have a good command of the Spanish language. You will be working with hispanic communities, and work creating consciousness about the use of the language.
