How to Add your Counselor to Your Common App Profile

Need help adding your counselor to Common App? Click the link below to watch a quick video tutorial that walks you through the steps to add your counselor or follow the directions listed below to ensure your application is ready for submission. Adding your school counselor to your common app profile allows your counselor to upload your transcript. 

How to Invite Your Counselor in Common App 

  • Log in to your Common App account.
  • Go to My Colleges.
  • Select the college you are applying to.
  • Scroll to Recommenders and FERPA.
  • Complete the FERPA Release Authorization and select your FERPA preferences. Click waive FERPA.
  • Under Counselor, click Invite Counselor.
  • You will enter your counselor’s first name, last name, and school email address, then click Invite.
  • Return to the Recommenders and FERPA section to make sure your counselor is listed as Invited.

Important: You only need to invite your counselor once. After you invite your counselor, they can submit the required school documents, including your transcript and counselor forms, for the colleges you apply to through Common App.

CFNC (College Foundation of North Carolina) is a free resource that helps North Carolina students with NC residency determination, applying to NC colleges and universities, exploring financial aid and scholarships, and accessing NC College Connect for direct admission opportunities.

Requesting a Counselor Recommendation

Need a counselor recommendation for your college application? Click the link below to submit your request. Please give your counselor at least 2 weeks’ notice before your deadline and include your resume or brag sheet to help your counselor write a strong, personalized recommendation.

Requesting Transcripts

Need to send your transcript to a college? Cox Mill students have three options:

  • Common App – Request your transcript through your Common App application by adding your counselor to your common app profile.
  • CFNC – Request your transcript through your CFNC account to be sent to any NC college or university for free.
  • Paper Copy – Request a paper transcript through Cox Mill High Schooll.

If you are under 18 and requesting a paper copy, parent/guardian permission is required. You will need to provide your parent/guardian’s information, including an email address that matches the information on file in Infinite Campus.

Community Colleges & Trade Schools 

Explore community colleges, technical schools, and career-training programs in the Concord/Charlotte area. These options offer affordable pathways to an associate degree, career certification, skilled trades, or transfer to a four-year college.

Local options to explore include:

Rowan-Cabarrus also offers programs in areas such as dental assisting, automotive technology, HVAC, welding, electrical systems, machining, mechatronics, nursing, cosmetology, and information technology. Central Piedmont offers programs including career and technical programs, apprenticeships, and pathways designed for direct entry into the workforce.
